Our Maternity Photos

Well folks, I am now officially one day over my expected due date.
Scottie and I are beside ourselves...reading into every little feeling, movement, oddity...

Thankfully, tonight we got back our maternity shots!
This gave us something to spend some time on and reflect on the past 9 months.

I was pretty picky about who I was going to have do the photos...then, once I found someone who took the types of photos I liked - turns out she lives in the nearby town!
Perfect!

Then when we met her...golden.
Michlynn - THANK YOU for making this day special for us

and helping us preserve this moment in time.  We adore each and every shot.

I thought I would share with you just a few of my favourite pictures from the day.
I am SO glad we did this...

We were 34 weeks pregnant at the time of this shoot.

Nursery Reveal

This Friday, November 2nd, is my due date.
There is a heavy spirit of anticipation in our home.
Also, at the the same time a quietness and honouring of this stage of our life.

I was just saying to Scott yesterday that I have loved
every moment of our 8 and a half years together.
Yes, we wanted kids long before we were blessed with this miracle...
but being "just the two of us" has also been a great joy.
One that I think will make us strong, bonded, and loving parents.

Anyhow...
I wanted to show you all our nursery.
It's been a work in progress and I am so happy with it!

We went with a "theme" of grey, white, navy, with bits of orange.
Orange is Scott's favorite color and I couldn't deny him this indulgence.

We love how this overhead light casts a very cool shadow on the walls.

I made this mobile from an idea I had seen on Pinterest made by this Etsy shop owner.

This was my grandpas rocker.
I grew up visiting grandma & grandpa...sitting in this chair.
THANK YOU grandma for parting with it for my nursery.
I do plan on repainting it white - but I ran out of gusto.

Cute little TOMS and dutch booties.

I also wanted to make all the artwork for the babes room.
Here are the pieces below...

This one I showed you how to make in this post
I love it's sentiment...

Here is another Pinterest inspired piece.
I took a page from an old dictionary (the page with the word "love" on it)
then adhered scrabble tiles to spell "love you".
Simple and cute.

Inspired from the Etsy shop Hello Peanut Prints is this frame below
holding a verse very close to my heart.

And the big light...
Again we LOVE the finished look.
But, buyer beware...if you want to buy this light it is a pain to put up and assemble.
Scott reminds me of this often;)

But, it looks so cool!

I cannot wait to introduce you to our baby boy!
Stay tuned.
I will try to get an announcement as soon as I can after he arrives!

Last Meal.

If you knew you would only eat one more meal - ever - do you know what you would eat?
I do.
It's specific;

with my friend Rachel's homemade salsa (VERY important)
and a really really really big frozen lime margarita with LOTS of rock salt.

For dessert - a brownie...the perfect blend of fudgey and cakey.
Served warm over ice cold homemade vanilla bean ice cream.
With a drizzle of warm caramel sauce.

Drool.

Anyhow - after scamming approximately 12 jars of Rachel's salsa last year
(I have a slight nacho addiction) she so very kindly let me come over today
and make a batch of my own from her fabulous recipe.

Friends - I am soooo not a preserver.
Canning is not my schtick.
But this salsa is sooooo to DIE for - I had to bite.

So today, three pregnant friends got together and made salsa.
It was the perfect way to spend a chilly, rainy, september day.

Ingredients - hot hot hot peppers from Rachel's garden...

Boiling, peeling, chopping, processing, grinding, measuring, stirring, boiling...
all for the love of salsa.

By the way - that wooden spoon was HUGE!
Never seen one that big before.

After taste testing for perfection...the process of filling the jars and sealing the lids took place.
Quite educational.
About half and hour later we started hearing the "pop pop pop" of seals popping.

I am so excited - I should be able to dig into my salsa by next week!!!

All in I got about 30 jars - hopefully I can made it last the year...
not likely.

What a fun day.
Learning something new while spending time with friends...what could be better?
Thanks for sharing Rachel.
Love ya.

How'd You Do That?

Last night I posted a picture on my Instagram
of a piece of artwork I was working on for the nursery.

By this morning I had two people ask "how did you do that"?
On this small blog...that kind of demand requires quick action.

So...I am about to show you how I did it.

This is the artwork I created:

Beauty From Ashes

Here is the how to...

1. Choose a verse, quotation, or lyrics you find inspiring.
2.  Go to this website and enter your text in the alloted text box.
3.  Choose how you would like your text to appear: valentine style, waves, or spiral - like mine.
4.  Click on "layout text" to see what it looks like and PRINT!

Disclaimer...this is a FREE website.
It's a bit buggy.
Have a little patience.
You may need to try it a couple of times before it's exactly how you like it.

With mine, I printed this beautiful verse in the spiral layout.
Once it was printed I cut a heart out of red card stock and adhered it with pop-up tape.
I am going to get a sweet little frame and put it up in the nursery.

I have made a few pieces of artwork for the room that I am excited about...
can't wait to reveal more and more as time goes on!

That's it.
Easy to do.
No craftiness necessary.

Possibilities are endless...could be used for cards, gifts, or artwork of any kind.

My Ultimate Camping Packing List

Summer.
I love it.
Here in Ontario we live 9 months of the year for 3 months of summer.

Our holidays are just around the corner.
Every year we go camping with a group of lovely friends
at Killbear Provincial Park for a week.
It's something I look forward to all year long.

Just a few photos will show you why...

Anyhow.
Many people moan and groan about camping because it's "too much work."
I used to be one of those people.
But - I do believe I have developed a fool proof, all bases covered,
no need to worry packing list!
Yeah yeah - they are all over the internet...what to pack for camping...
Well, here is my list.

It's extensive but it's ALL there.
Well, all except stuff needed for kids & babes...which I will have to work on for next year!

So feel free to use this list - add it to your own list - or
just read it and realize how "TYPE A" I really am.

Bringing coffee is of utmost importance.
And Bailey's - for those who can enjoy it.

Happy Trails!

Something sweet...

Last weekend we had Scott's parents over for a BBQ.
Scott's mom arrived with the greatest surprise!

She gave me Scott's old baby blanket.
It's so sweet.
Handmade by a dear family friend.

I love the thought of our baby boy lying down
and playing on the same blankie as his dad once did.

Thanks mom!
I LOVE it.
